How to Build a Killer Instagram Following and Increase Your Sales

But, how important are they on the Instagram website?

I would say they are more important than all other social media accounts and platforms. Popular hashtags are the language in which free Instagram followers speak. A power user can be found loading even up to 30 hashtags in their update – the hashtag limit per post.

Note: You won’t need to worry about hashtag fatigue on Instagram. Rather, more popular hashtags equates to more likes on your Instagram photos.

So, how do you find relevant and popular hashtags to add to every Instagram photo?

The process is similar to performing keyword research – Record relevant hashtags that your competitors and brand advocates are using in their updates and use this knowledge to gain followers.

You can also scroll through the 100 most popular hashtags compiled by Webstagram here. I’ve included the top 20 in the screenshot below.

Adding popular hashtags will expand your post’s reach, but make sure that you use only the ones that are relevant to your products and suit your brand personality.

Otherwise, you’ll only see a short-term increase in your engagement, but your new free Instagram followers won’t convert into additional sales.

Moreover, if you integrate less popular hashtags in your posts, then you’ll appear at the top of the search feeds for them. Scout low-competition Instagram hashtags (much like targeting long-tail keywords in your blog posts).

Insellycom uses a variety of Instagram hashtags in their updates, including popular ones (like #fashion), moderately popular ones (like #fashiondaily) and less popular ones (like #fashiontrend).

Broadly there are 3 kinds of Instagram contests. “Like to win” and “email gated” are less participative. I recommend that you to launch the third type, a hashtag UGC (user-generated content) contest.

Inviting your Instagram community and encouraging them to create visual user generated content will deepen your relationship with them, besides significantly increase your brand visibility and gain more followers in the long run.

So, how do you launch your first contest?

4. Use the right filters and post high-quality content regularly

As per research done at Georgia Tech and Yahoo Labs, filtered photos are 21% more likely to get viewed and 45% more likely to get comments.

So, which filters work the best?

Track Maven found that using “no filter” and “Inkwell” in your photos will drive the most interaction.



While the above filters are good starting points for experimentation, your audience might have a different favorite filter. You need to dig into your own account’s performance, using a tool like Iconosquare.

Once you get your own graphs correlating engagement with filters, you’ll be able to judge your audience preferences.  If you are just starting out with Instagram and don’t have a large following, study your competitors to see what’s working for them.

Note:  Do you know that Instagram also allows users to post up to 15 seconds of video content? But, as per April 2015 research by Locowise, only 10.81% of Instagram posts are in video format.  Yet, they get 17.51% of all comments.

There are two strategies for doing this.

So, how do you find Instagram celebrities with a massive following?

Take out your list of popular industry hashtags (that you created in strategy 1) and search for them in Webstagram. You’ll find the top Instagram users that feature these keywords.

Here’s a step by step guide to shooting pro quality video on your mobile phone.

  1. Set Up Saved Audiences

Saved Audiences can be extremely useful – especially if you want to target a specific market.

  1. Embed Your Facebook Content

If you see a good fit to sneak your Facebook content into a blog post (or anywhere else online), I highly recommend you take advantage of the opportunity.

Mixing together different forms of content is a great way to create more touch points with your potential customers.

Facebook also makes it easy to embed content – just click in the upper right-hand corner of your post, copy, and paste (you can see a real world example of this tip in point nine below)

  1. Shoot Live Video

Video production is going to be a major theme for social media in 2017, and live video, in particular, is going to grow greatly.

Don’t get us wrong – you need to be able to master staged video first, but once you get the hang of it, stepping in front of the camera and shooting live has a ton of advantages.

The most important reason to test out live video is the increased reach. Live videos get a boost in Facebook’s algorithm, giving you a push into more and more people’s feeds.

  1. Have Fun

I say this every year, and 2017 will be no exception.

  • One-pager/cheat sheet: A one-pager or cheat sheet is a short piece of content that informs a reader about a product, service or concept in an extremely digestive way. These are always one page, but copy can also be on the back.
  • Activity book/worksheet: An activity book is a great way to get interactive with your content.  Instead of just telling your audience what to do, walk them through it!  Think check lists, questionnaires, and templates. Even consider something fun like coloring book, word scramble, or crossword puzzle.
  • Video: Marketing videos come in many forms. Think 60-90 second demo videos, animated shorts, love action commercials, webinar recordings, and presentation recordings, to name a few.
  • Infographic: Visual content is a great way to reach your audience in a fun and interesting way.  An infographic takes a complex story, often including stats and quotes, and uses graphical elements to bring it to life in a more concise manner.  Infographics are typically short and are scrollable on a computer screen on mobile phone.
  • Slide Decks: Visual slide decks are a great way to present longer form information in an engaging way. You can create a special visual slide deck using creative visuals from an infographic, or you can upload a webinar presentation slide deck.  Slide decks should present information in an easy-to-digest format, and also tell a compelling story at the same time in order to engage your reader.
  • Podcasts: Never underestimate the power of a podcast.  A podcast is a vocal recording of a presentation, webinar, or speech.  A person can listen to a podcast on the go-in her car, on her headphones, and so on.

Today we would like to share with you today how you could write a good content by starting a mission statement and by analyzing what your competitors are writing to their customers.

Before going to create a core message, here are the 3 content marketing strategies you could consider:

1. Creating Core Message

Your core message is the primary benefit you offer your customers. It might include your story or the one piece of advice you share with customers. This message is the bottom-line reason why you’re in business and should be the guiding principle for all content.

Start with your mission statement: What do you want to do for your customers or clients? What impact do you want to have on their lives?

Phrase your core message: Based on your mission statement, what is the big benefit you want your followers to get from engaging with your content.

If you can’t decide what it is, look for one central solution you provide your customers or one big question you answer when talking with them.


Mission: “To help all working ladies to pick dresses that would make them shine for any special occasion, at their finger tips.”

Core Message: “Your customer will save so much time and money on the dress, and will run like a happy puppy when she receive so much compliments from their friends.”

Secondary Messages: “Your customers do not have to go through the hassles of looking for the dresses on other market places where there is no way that these market places could understand the need of your customers as much as you do.”

2. Analyze What Your Competitors Are Writing

Select five brands in your industry that are using content marketing successfully. You may select brands that are industry leaders or smaller brands — as long as they use content marketing to grow their business. Then evaluate their content by the following:

  • Try to identify their core message.
  • List the topics they cover. How well do they support the core message?
  • List the types of content produced, include blog posts, social media posts, podcasts or videos, special reports, slide shows, infographics, ebooks, and more.
  • Make note of how often each type of content is posted. If several types are used, lay out each content type in its own line in the previous column, then list the frequency of that type of content beside it in this column.
  • Make note of the calls to action used in different types of content.
  • Try to find the gap, or what they don’t cover in their content marketing.

3. Deciding On The Specific Types Of Content You Want To Create

You can create one type of content or multiple types. Your options include:

Blog posts:
Articles that talk about issues related to your core message and secondary messages. They can range anywhere from 100 words to 2,000 words, depending on the format you choose and what your readers prefer.

Magazine articles: 
Like a blog post, these posts talk about issues related to your core message, but instead of publishing them digitally, you publish them in a print magazine. That magazine may be your brand’s magazine, a trade (industry) magazine, or a consumer magazine such as Inc., Fortune, Time, etc.

Not all content is housed on your website. You can create a channel on YouTube or Vimeo that provides another access point to your business. Some content marketers upload videos to YouTube, then reposted on their blog. Others create a video blog, or vlog, that lives on YouTube.

Podcasts are audio articles or radio shows, often published in iTunes, Stitcher Radio, or Blubrry. Podcasting is gaining renewed popularity now because people who don’t have time to read are able to listen to articles while in their daily commute or other activities.

Powerpoint presentations:
Offer the them on your website. Turn them into infographics. Use them in blog posts. Upload them to Slideshare.

Tutorials, guides:
You can create a Web page that provides links to additional information, essentially making a lesson plan for learning something new. This is a great way to build authority in your area of expertise. What if she looks better in her lingerie than when she is naked. What if she can make her husband begs to go to bed with her in her lingerie every night? What happen if by wearing the sexy lingerie that you sell, she could get her husband claw over broken glass and begs for her forgiveness and promise that he will get home latest by 8 pm every day? What happen if she could save a lot of money by buying from you and yet she still gets to enjoy all the benefits that other lingerie offers? These are just some examples but you should think about what you could offer to your customers that would help solve their problems. Customers don’t just buy from you if there is no compelling reason for them to do so.
