Why Drop Shipping is Your Power Tool for Merchandising

It’s very tempting to think of drop shipping as a basic order fulfillment method just like any other. After all, at its core, it’s just a process whereby a consumer places an order with an online retailer but receives the order from the product’s actual manufacturer. As a retailer, however, drop shipping can be so much more than that. Thanks to its inherent flexibility and low-risk nature, drop shipping has the potential to be your ultimate tool for merchandising and product curation.

There are numerous ways in which your merchandising efforts can benefit from dropshipping; here are some of the most useful:

Increasing Volume with Existing Brands

If your store is selling out of certain products over and over, turning to a dropship model could be the answer. Your existing products could be selling out for a few reasons—maybe you don’t have the physical warehouse space to hold the proper level of inventory, or maybe you can’t manage to order the right amount from your suppliers, or perhaps you have limited open to buy. Whatever the reason, setting up a dropship arrangement with those products’ suppliers would be a simple fix to your problem. Where your inventory for that popular item was once limited to the amount you had on hand, supply can now always meet demand as a customer’s order is guaranteed to be fulfilled directly from the brand itself.

Pivoting to a dropship relationship with a few suppliers does not mean that you have to reinvent the wheel with respect to your order management processes. In fact, launching a dropship program largely takes the responsibility of shipping and fulfillment off your shoulders. Also, many furniture, home goods, apparel and accessories suppliers already dropship, so if you’re in any of those industries, it’s likely that your transition to dropship management will be quite seamless for both parties. If you’re still concerned about the basics of how to dropship, don’t worry. There are plenty of resources out there, as well as dropshipping software tools that can be of great use to you.

Selling new products from new (and existing) brands

Another effective way in which drop shipping can be beneficial for merchandising is that your product mix and brand offerings can be drastically expanded and diversified with virtually no risk. In addition to doing more volume from the same SKUs, as we described in the above example, drop shipping can also allow you to sell new items from both existing and new suppliers without taking on the risk of additional inventory. In a wholesale model, there is tremendous financial risk associated with adding new product lines or experimenting with new SKUs. When you dropship, however, you can experiment to try to find the perfect product mix that maximizes revenue.

The importance of that flexibility to experiment should not be underestimated. In sports, it’s widely accepted that as hard and as often as you practice, there’s nothing like a real game to assess and ultimately improve your skills. That idea holds true in retail too. As a traditional wholesale retailer, you can have all the predictive analytics and the most talented, dedicated product curators in the world, but the only way to know for sure how well a new item will sell is to… well, sell it! When items are live on your site and being sold via dropship, you’ll be able to fully determine how to merchandise around them and maximize your ecommerce revenue.

Testing New Verticals

Drop shipping can mitigate risk to the point where retailers can test out merchandising with entirely new verticals, not just products and brands. You can find examples of this all over the ecommerce world: a dinnerware retailer who starts carrying a couple of new cookware/bakeware brands; a high-end clothing retailer who decides to sell a line of scented candles; a hip home goods store that experiments with some new jewelry designers.

The possibilities for expanding your product mix are virtually endless if you decide to dropship—and if you’re able to find the right dropship suppliers. Importantly, when launching a dropship program with new verticals or suppliers, you need to always consider how those new products fit with your company’s image and audience. If there’s a certain value proposition, quality level, or message that your customers have come to expect from you, don’t dilute that by indiscriminately adding new products to your site just because drop shipping allows you that flexibility. If you sell sustainable clothing at a high price point, for instance, a perfect fit (and effective new revenue stream) might be water bottles from S’well, a popular eco-friendly company whose mission is to “rid the world of plastic water bottles.”

As another example, if you’re a high-end kitchenware supplier, maybe you can start selling things like boutique cooking spices, coffees, teas, etc.  Whatever your industry, if you successfully determine your company identity and find like-minded brands with whom to partner, you can easily expand and perfectly curate your product mix, with virtually no risk, through drop shipping.

Drop shipping is traditionally thought of as simply a method for fulfilling purchase orders from your ecommerce retail site. However, it can also be a powerful tool through which you can expand your inventory, test out new products, or sell goods in entirely new verticals. When considering new revenue streams, think about how you want to enhance your product mix, vendor mix, and/or category mix —chances are, drop shipping can help you accomplish your goals.

5 High-Impact Strategies for Getting More Traffic

woman_laptop_overhead

“How do I drive more traffic to my online store?”

That thought crosses the mind of every ecommerce entrepreneur at some point.

Maybe you’ve just sunk time and effort into painstakingly setting up your store, only to open up shop and wonder where your sales are. Maybe you’ve seen steady growth over the past 6 months, but just hit a plateau. Or maybe you’ve built a million dollar business and now you’re setting your sights on your next big goal.

Whether you’re trying to attract your first customer or your 10,000th customer, generating more traffic to your online store is a crucial part of growing your business. If your site is properly optimized for conversions, getting a jump in traffic could mean more customers and more sales.

To help you increase traffic for your online store, we’ve put together a list of 5 proven, high impact tactics for driving more traffic to your online store.

1. Run Paid Social Media Ad Campaigns

To increase website traffic for your online store, you need to be able to get your business in front of your ideal customers. With paid social media ads, you can create highly targeted campaigns that serve tailor-made ads to the customers who are most likely to click through and purchase your products.

If you’re thinking about running paid social media ads, here are some platforms you should consider:

Facebook Ads

facebook ads

With 1.65 billion monthly users, Facebook is the largest social media platform in the world and filled with opportunities for you to reach new customers and drive them to your online store. Facebook’s robust advertising platform allows you to target users based on their interests, behavior, location, and more.

Using Facebook Dynamic Ads, you can even serve automatically-generated ads to customers who have previously visited your website, featuring the products that they’ve already looked at or added to their carts. These powerful ads can help you bring users back to your website, so that you can make the most of the traffic you’re already getting.

Instagram Ads

Instagram is an incredibly popular platform, especially among Millennials. In fact, 73% of its half a billion monthly active users are between the ages of 15 – 35, making it the perfect choice for businesses whose target audiences skew younger.

With its recently expanded tools for business owners, Instagram is quickly becoming the platform-to-watch for social media advertising. It’s actually pegged to rake in a whopping $2.81 billion by the year 2017 on mobile ad revenue alone, beating out both Twitter and Google.

So, even if you’ve already built an army of followers on Instagram, you aren’t really using it to its full potential until you’ve tried its advertising platform.

Pinterest Ads

promoted pins

Pinterest plays a key role in the purchasing decisions of its users: 93% have used it to plan purchases and 52% have purchased something online after seeing it on Pinterest first. It’s also extremely popularity among niche groups like DIY crafts, home decor, and fashion which is ideal for businesses hoping to make in-roads with these markets.

Pinterest is home to Promoted Pins, a form of paid advertising that pushes your Pins to the top of your customers’ search results, helping you stand out from the crowd. Promoted Pins blend in with the rest of Pinterest’s content, making them a great tool for capturing your customers’ attention and pulling them to your online store.

2. Use SEO to Increase Your Store’s Discoverability

Can your customers actually find your store online?

When customers search for your products online, you want your store to be one of the top results for that search, especially since ⅓ of all clicks go to the first organic result on Google. That prized top position is a key ingredient for generating sustained, qualified website traffic for your online store.

Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is the process of fine-tuning your website to increase its chances of ranking highly in search results for relevant keywords.

3. Reach New Audiences with Influencer Marketing

Influencer marketing is the process of building relationships with influencers to get your online store in front of new audiences.

With influencer marketing, you can harness the creativity and reach of relevant influencers in your industry while leveraging the trust that they’ve already formed with their audiences.

Bloggers and social media celebrities like Estee Lalonde are highly trusted by their followers, so getting them to feature your products is an effective, organic tactic for increasing your traffic. According to Nielsen, 92% of customers actually value word-of-mouth recommendations from people they trust over any other form of advertising.

4. Drive Excitement with Contests and Giveaways

While many of these methods may seem like long term solutions for increasing your traffic, there are ways to give your business a short term boost in numbers as well.

With viral contests, giveaways, and sweepstakes you can quickly drive more traffic to your store by offering exciting prizes in exchange for your customers’ participation. Prizes and rewards are powerful incentives for getting both current and new customers to actually visit your store.

Using tools like Gleam or Woobox, you can embed giveaways into landing pages or blog posts on your store. These contests can even use social sharing as a method of entry, giving your sweepstakes a higher chance of going viral and spreading around social platforms. Once participants are on your store, you can use different techniques to guide them to your products, like exit intent popups featuring coupon codes.

5. Attract Customers with Content Marketing

Content marketing is about more than just having a blog.

By creating interesting, informative, and engaging content, you can organically attract customers to your online store. From videos and podcasts to guides and ebooks, there are endless opportunities for your business to branch out into the world of content and capture new audiences.

Original content helps position your business as an industry thought leader and build a lifestyle around your brand. Your business’ content strategy can include anything that your customers might find relevant or interesting—don’t limit yourself to posts or guides that include or focus on your products. Instead, consider any and all topics and resources related to your business that your customers would find useful.

Content marketing also gives your store the chance to conquer search results beyond product and brand keywords. Using free tools like Google Keyword Planner and Keyword.io, you can identify new opportunities for your business to rank in search results and get in front of larger audiences.

Get More Traffic, Get More Customers

With these tactics in your ecommerce marketing toolkit, you should now be able to generate more website traffic for your online store.

More traffic to your online store means more opportunities to turn those casual shoppers into paying customers. Once you’ve increased your traffic, consider trying out Conversion Rate Optimization as a next step.

How to Build a Killer Instagram Following and Increase Your Sales

instagram-logo

With over 2 billion active users worldwide, social media has become a terrific channel for businesses to connect with their customers, build brand awareness, and improve their marketing strategy.

And, if your target audience loves visuals, then you cannot afford to ignore the platform that sees 70 million photo updates everyday…

In particular, businesses belonging to the fashion, travel or food industry have a terrific opportunity to engage with their audience on the app you can download for free -Instagram.

Yet, only 30% of businesses are active on social media have an Instagram account. You might think that low business adoption rate will mean that you’ll face lower competition and see higher social engagement and more free Instagram followers.

I’ve put together 5 tips to help you gain more free followers on Instagram, increase your engagement rate with your target audience and drive sales via better brand awareness.

1. Load up your updates with relevant Hashtags

You might already know the effectiveness of popular hashtags in reaching a targeted audience on Twitter.

instagram - hashtags

But, how important are they on the Instagram website?

I would say they are more important than all other social media accounts and platforms. Popular hashtags are the language in which free Instagram followers speak. A power user can be found loading even up to 30 hashtags in their update – the hashtag limit per post.

hashtags 2

Note: You won’t need to worry about hashtag fatigue on Instagram. Rather, more popular hashtags equates to more likes on your Instagram photos.

So, how do you find relevant and popular hashtags to add to every Instagram photo?

The process is similar to performing keyword research – Record relevant hashtags that your competitors and brand advocates are using in their updates and use this knowledge to gain followers.

You can also scroll through the 100 most popular hashtags compiled by Webstagram here. I’ve included the top 20 in the screenshot below.

Instagram - top hashtags

Adding popular hashtags will expand your post’s reach, but make sure that you use only the ones that are relevant to your products and suit your brand personality.

Otherwise, you’ll only see a short-term increase in your engagement, but your new free Instagram followers won’t convert into additional sales.

Moreover, if you integrate less popular hashtags in your posts, then you’ll appear at the top of the search feeds for them. Scout low-competition Instagram hashtags (much like targeting long-tail keywords in your blog posts).

Insellycom uses a variety of Instagram hashtags in their updates, including popular ones (like #fashion), moderately popular ones (like #fashiondaily) and less popular ones (like #fashiontrend).

hashtags 3

You can also scout for relevant popular hashtags by your product and brand categories and then group them in Evernote. Richard runs an eCommerce business and he uses this technique to efficiently derive more engagement from the free Instagram platform.

hashtags 4

Note: If you have not been using hashtags in your previous posts on instagram, simply revisit your older updates and add relevant hashtags in the comments. Your post will start showing up in the Instagram feed for your added hashtags. You’ll see a bump in your engagement as well as plenty more free Instagram followers rolling in.

2. Host a photo contest to engage your followers and expand your brand’s reach

Broadly there are 3 kinds of Instagram contests. “Like to win” and “email gated” are less participative. I recommend that you to launch the third type, a hashtag UGC (user-generated content) contest.

Inviting your Instagram community and encouraging them to create visual user generated content will deepen your relationship with them, besides significantly increase your brand visibility and gain more followers in the long run.

Deftones conducted a photo contest that resulted in 20,000 new Instagram followers and 1,300 new Instagram posts tagged #deftones within 3 months. People love adding profile pics as it ups their engagement with their own Instagram community – so give them a reason to do this.

So, how do you launch your first contest?

Pick a goal and define the metrics for evaluation of your contest’s performance. It can read like “increasing my free Instagram follower count by 25%” or “create 300 posts with @YourInstagramHandle”.

You can conveniently collect relevant posts around a theme, by requesting submissions with a contest-specific hashtag. Esprit launched this type of photo and profile pic contest, asking their customers to upload their submissions with #everydayamazing.

everyday amazing

Next, pick a subject that will indulge your audience and create a shareable experience for them. For instance, Franworks restaurants launched the ‘Movember’ Mustache campaign for their Instagram account.

They provided mustache coasters and asked each and every free Instagram follower to share their mustache pic with the restaurant’s tags (#statestache, #joesmos, #castlestache).  They offered trips and restaurant gift cards as prizes, which is a great incentive to increase participation across the Instagram community.

mustache

It’s fun to participate in the contest for the Instagram follower and it promotes Franworks in an authentic way.

If you want, you can check out the previous contests launched by your competitors at Iconosquare. Search for popular hashtags like #contest and #photocontest.

iconosquare

Once you’ve finalized the contest details, take ample time to promote it on your social networks. Start with a Facebook event like Buffalo Wings does below.

buffalojordan

You can also pitch guest posts, send email announcements and use Facebook Ads to create a buzz, you can even change your Facebook profile pic to the contest ad to garner more interest.

Once the contest ends, you should announce the winners across your social networks like your Facebook page or in a blog post.

3. Express yourself with the fastest growing language in UK history…the EMOJI

This language can help you in humanizing your communications, thereby increasing your email open rates, social network engagement and conversions, and to gain followers. And, it has seen an unprecedented adoption in UK.

Nearly 50% of all captions and comments on Instagram have at least one emoji. So, it’s a no-brainer to integrate them in your updates to express yourself.

So, what are the emojis that free Instagram followers like the most?

Simply Measured, in its analysis of 2500 Instagram posts, found that “love hearts” receive the maximum engagement per post. “Sparkles” and “artist palette” are the next two most engaging emojis on the list.

Here is the graph with analysis of the top 10 emojis vs. the engagement they get. If you want more followers then turn to emojis and other growing social network trends.

emoji stats

While these emojis should be in your Instagram vocabulary, you should first understand how your audience communicates with them. Even different colored hearts have different meanings.

emoji profiles

If you’re a newbie to emoticons, HubSpot’s Emoji Guide is a good place to start so you can implement them in your Instagram business without standing out for the wrong reasons.

Once you’re familiar, here are 3 tips to extract maximum value from emojis and increase your free Instagram follower numbers.

  1. Use emoticons in 3 locations on your Instagram account, for getting a massive boost in your engagement.

hashtag - 3 locations

Note: On April 27, 2015 Instagram began allowing its users to hashtag emojis. This means that you can now search for emoticons on the explore page and tap them in your photo captions.

2.  Using emoji in your messages and even your Instagram bio will help you express yourself without many words. You can leverage this universal language to connect deeper with your fans. Here are the top 10 emoji:

top 10 emoji

3. You can always post a normal comment or caption to appreciate cute pictures and profile pics – “A really cute baby”.

But, if you want to grab attention, entertain your audience and keep them coming back for more, then you’ll need to get creative. And, emojis are a terrific visual way of doing that.

You can follow the lead of ps.ny, in Sue’s post below. Her comment reads “How ador:)ble and aw:)some!!!”

emoji sample

Similarly, ArnoldGrape used emoji creatively, in a comment on the crushsocial post below. Instead of the vanilla “awesome”, his comment reads “keep [emoji]’n in the [emoji] [emoji]”.

4. Use the right filters and post high-quality content regularly

As per research done at Georgia Tech and Yahoo Labs, filtered photos are 21% more likely to get viewed and 45% more likely to get comments.

filter 1

So, which filters work the best?

Track Maven found that using “no filter” and “Inkwell” in your photos will drive the most interaction.

filters

While the above filters are good starting points for experimentation, your audience might have a different favorite filter. You need to dig into your own account’s performance, using a tool like Iconosquare.

Once you get your own graphs correlating engagement with filters, you’ll be able to judge your audience preferences.  If you are just starting out with Instagram and don’t have a large following, study your competitors to see what’s working for them.

Note:  Do you know that Instagram also allows users to post up to 15 seconds of video content? But, as per April 2015 research by Locowise, only 10.81% of Instagram posts are in video format.  Yet, they get 17.51% of all comments.

This is an untapped opportunity for you to increase engagement by using your Instagram account well. Get started with Instagram video here.

5. Shell out some dollars on Instagram celebrities for getting sponsored placements

There are two strategies for doing this.

  1. You pay them upwards of $20 per sponsored post (cost is dependent on the influencer’s size of following). Look at how Maxim model Ashley Sky promotes Your Tea in the post below and it gets incredible engagement from her followers.celebrities 1
  2. The more natural (non-salesy) way is sending your product to the user and asking them to review it. Remember authenticity helps in increasing engagement and is more likely to render a positive result when it comes to your follow and unfollow numbers.

Men’s fashion startup, Bachelr paid $50 per image to tastefully promote their products through large men’s fashion Instagram accounts.

The result?

A flood of traffic that crashed their servers.

traffic increase

So, how do you find Instagram celebrities with a massive following?

Take out your list of popular industry hashtags (that you created in strategy 1) and search for them in Webstagram. You’ll find the top Instagram users that feature these keywords.

This strategy is not dependent on a big budget.  You can look lower on the celebrity list and find the ones that might have a smaller following, but are still within your budget to help you gain followers.

Facebook Marketing Tips For 2017 – What You Must Know

facebook marketing tips

  1. Get Comfortable With Shooting Video

Video on Facebook accounts for just 0.9% of all posts. Here’s the crazy thing about that: these same 0.9% of posts account for 7.15% of all reach on the network. And that number is growing.

Video posts are dominating social media, with Facebook emerging as YouTube’s largest contender for video uploads. If you haven’t started marketing with video on Facebook, now’s the time to begin.

We’re seeing huge reach in industries across the board. You don’t need to be a professional videographer to capitalize on this either – all you need is a smart phone, some good lighting, and maybe a few goodies from Amazon. Here’s a step by step guide to shooting pro quality video on your mobile phone.

  1. Set Up Saved Audiences

Saved Audiences can be extremely useful – especially if you want to target a specific market.

Within Facebook’s Business Manager, you can create custom audiences based on set parameters. This enables you to advertise to specific groups of people, making sure that your niche content meets the right demographic.

For example, we recently wrote an article that was specific to mortgage lenders – not, by any means, the bulk of our Facebook fans. By creating a Saved Audience, we were able to target a group of mortgage lenders within the USA who were also interested in marketing with our niche piece of content. This drew the right audience to our content, drumming up business for our company and eyeballs on our brand.

Test it out for yourself – it’s 100% free to set up, so you can see how large your audience is before you start paying for advertisements.

  1. Try Your Hand at Retargeting

If you own a business and you have a website, you absolutely must start a retargeting campaign – it’s one of the most profitable forms of advertising online.

In a nutshell, retargeting enables you to advertise to people who’ve already visited your website. All you have to do is install Facebook’s tracking pixel on your website, and wait for visitors to roll in.

  1. Add Captioning to Your Videos

Facebook recently announced that they’re expanding access to their automated video captioning tool to all users, but we’re slightly skeptical of this option.

YouTube has similar software, and to be honest, it’s pretty bad.

And here’s the thing: your captioning matters. 90% of viewers on Facebook watch videos without sound, meaning that your captions are going to be read by a majority of your viewers. Either add the captions yourself or do what we do: hire someone on Fiverr to do it for you. For about five bucks you’ll get an accurate SRT file that you can upload to Facebook in a couple of clicks.

  1. Add a Call To Action on Your Page

Facebook added this functionality and every page owner should take advantage.

On your Facebook Business Page, you can add a call to action that sits in the bottom right-hand corner of your cover photo. These buttons make it easy for your fans to get in touch with your business – don’t miss out on some extra site traffic.

  1. Upload Your Email List

If you have a large e-mail list, you need to upload it to Facebook. Once it’s finished loading, you’ll be able to advertise to every single e-mail that’s associated with a Facebook account.

Similar to retargeting, this practice is great because it enables you to utilize multiple touch points with your potential customers. Take advantage of their past interest in your brand, and try running a Like or engagement campaign to encourage them to interact with you on social media.

The more ways you can reach your audience, the better.

  1. Be Responsive To Messages

There’s more and more evidence indicating that Facebook is calculating response time into their algorithm, so be sure to respond to messages. Your response time will also be live on your page, so fans will be able to see how quickly you interact with them.

When I gave my Social Media Predictions for 2017, one of the main points of focus was on the adoption of Messenger for business. At Cave, we’re seeing B2C interaction moving towards social messaging in great numbers this year, so be sure to buck the trend and respond as quickly as possible.

  1. Embed Your Facebook Content

If you see a good fit to sneak your Facebook content into a blog post (or anywhere else online), I highly recommend you take advantage of the opportunity.

Mixing together different forms of content is a great way to create more touch points with your potential customers.

Facebook also makes it easy to embed content – just click in the upper right-hand corner of your post, copy, and paste (you can see a real world example of this tip in point nine below)

  1. Shoot Live Video

Video production is going to be a major theme for social media in 2017, and live video, in particular, is going to grow greatly.

Don’t get us wrong – you need to be able to master staged video first, but once you get the hang of it, stepping in front of the camera and shooting live has a ton of advantages.

The most important reason to test out live video is the increased reach. Live videos get a boost in Facebook’s algorithm, giving you a push into more and more people’s feeds.

Here’s a video we shot on Facebook Live, going over a few tips for using the live feature.

https://www.facebook.com/cavesocial/videos/1008480722601427/

  1. Have Fun

I say this every year, and 2017 will be no exception.

You need to be social on social media. It’s not a soap box, it was built so that individuals around the world could connect with one another.

If you want to increase your reach, commit to being personal – talk about what your know and your experiences, and have some fun with it. There’s a reason we drink beers at the beginning of every episode of In The Cave – we enjoy it. If we’re having fun, there’s a better chance our viewers will be having fun too.

Hopefully this gave you some ideas about how to use Facebook to market your brand online in 2017.

Generating leads with content marketing

content-marketing-service
Content marketing is proving to be a large part of any successful lead generation effort.

Content marketing is anything a company creates and shares to tell their story. It becomes particularly important as the new buyer self –educates through the buying journey via online channels.

According to Heidi Coben, content marketing expert and blogger, content marketing’s major attributes include the following:-

  • Embodies the product of firm’s core brand elements.
  • Uses a variety of media formats such as text, video, photos, audio, ebooks, and infographics to tell a brand story.
  • Can be consumed on a variety of devices such as computers, smartphones and tablets.
  • Is distributed through your owned properties like your website and blog, through third-party contacts and vendors, and social media platforms.
  • Provides measureable results through the use of appropriate calls-to-action.

Exploring Content

Content helps you build trust and become a thought leader in your space. Without quality content, you won’t have a comprehensive lead generation plan.

Create a content that could help your buyers and gain their trust in you by providing solutions to their problem.  When you help a buyer with a problem, you become top-of-mind.  After you gain a buyer’s trust because you have helped him so many times, convincing a buyer that your product or service is the best becomes much easier.

Being a thought leader

When prospects discover your company, most likely, they don’t yet have trust in your brand and they aren’t ready to make a purchase. You need to create something that is useful and not something that turns people off.  Thought leadership needs to be educational and ideally provocative.

Thought leadership in content marketing helps you:

  • Create relationships with customers and prospects by engaging in relevant conversations.
  • Differentiate yourself as a source for research and best practices across your industry.
  • Build trust with prospects so that when they are ready to make a purchase they automatically go to the industry leader.

The key here is to make sure you are sending the right message at the right time in a lead’s buying cycle.

Blog that comes in handy at the right time will attract people to subscribe to your blog.  The first brand that comes to mind might be the one who’s been sending helpful content over a period of time.

Leveraging promotional content

Promotional content is an asset that delivers hard sell.  This should be used when a lead is very close to making a purchase. However, for the purpose of lead generation, you will mostly be using content that can be considered thought leadership in nature because you are trying to create relationships. Promotional content can come later in the buying cycle.

Considering different forms of content

To make sure you’re reaching every potential buyer, use a variety of content types.  Here are a few to consider:

  • Ebook: An ebook is a digital book that consists of text and images. Ebooks can be easily consumed on computers and mobile devices.  They can be a few pages, hundreds of pages long, or anywhere in between.  The great part about an ebook is that you can base many of your additional assets off the written content.
  • Whitepapers and reports: Many people think of whitepapers and reports as being interchangeable with ebooks.  However, I think of a whitepaper more as a long-form authoritative report or manual.  Whitepapers often take the form of benchmarks and industry reports.
  • One-pager/cheat sheet: A one-pager or cheat sheet is a short piece of content that informs a reader about a product, service or concept in an extremely digestive way. These are always one page, but copy can also be on the back.
  • Activity book/worksheet: An activity book is a great way to get interactive with your content.  Instead of just telling your audience what to do, walk them through it!  Think check lists, questionnaires, and templates. Even consider something fun like coloring book, word scramble, or crossword puzzle.
  • Video: Marketing videos come in many forms. Think 60-90 second demo videos, animated shorts, love action commercials, webinar recordings, and presentation recordings, to name a few.
  • Infographic: Visual content is a great way to reach your audience in a fun and interesting way.  An infographic takes a complex story, often including stats and quotes, and uses graphical elements to bring it to life in a more concise manner.  Infographics are typically short and are scrollable on a computer screen on mobile phone.
  • Slide Decks: Visual slide decks are a great way to present longer form information in an engaging way. You can create a special visual slide deck using creative visuals from an infographic, or you can upload a webinar presentation slide deck.  Slide decks should present information in an easy-to-digest format, and also tell a compelling story at the same time in order to engage your reader.
  • Podcasts: Never underestimate the power of a podcast.  A podcast is a vocal recording of a presentation, webinar, or speech.  A person can listen to a podcast on the go-in her car, on her headphones, and so on.

Content Marketing Tips 2

Today we would like to share with you today how you could write a good content by starting a mission statement and by analyzing what your competitors are writing to their customers.

Before going to create a core message, here are the 3 content marketing strategies you could consider:

1. Creating Core Message

Your core message is the primary benefit you offer your customers. It might include your story or the one piece of advice you share with customers. This message is the bottom-line reason why you’re in business and should be the guiding principle for all content.

Start with your mission statement: What do you want to do for your customers or clients? What impact do you want to have on their lives?

Phrase your core message: Based on your mission statement, what is the big benefit you want your followers to get from engaging with your content.

If you can’t decide what it is, look for one central solution you provide your customers or one big question you answer when talking with them.

Examples:

Mission: “To help all working ladies to pick dresses that would make them shine for any special occasion, at their finger tips.”

Core Message: “Your customer will save so much time and money on the dress, and will run like a happy puppy when she receive so much compliments from their friends.”

Secondary Messages: “Your customers do not have to go through the hassles of looking for the dresses on other market places where there is no way that these market places could understand the need of your customers as much as you do.”

2. Analyze What Your Competitors Are Writing

Select five brands in your industry that are using content marketing successfully. You may select brands that are industry leaders or smaller brands — as long as they use content marketing to grow their business. Then evaluate their content by the following:

  • Try to identify their core message.
  • List the topics they cover. How well do they support the core message?
  • List the types of content produced, include blog posts, social media posts, podcasts or videos, special reports, slide shows, infographics, ebooks, and more.
  • Make note of how often each type of content is posted. If several types are used, lay out each content type in its own line in the previous column, then list the frequency of that type of content beside it in this column.
  • Make note of the calls to action used in different types of content.
  • Try to find the gap, or what they don’t cover in their content marketing.

3. Deciding On The Specific Types Of Content You Want To Create

You can create one type of content or multiple types. Your options include:

Blog posts:
Articles that talk about issues related to your core message and secondary messages. They can range anywhere from 100 words to 2,000 words, depending on the format you choose and what your readers prefer.

Magazine articles:
Like a blog post, these posts talk about issues related to your core message, but instead of publishing them digitally, you publish them in a print magazine. That magazine may be your brand’s magazine, a trade (industry) magazine, or a consumer magazine such as Inc., Fortune, Time, etc.

Video:
Not all content is housed on your website. You can create a channel on YouTube or Vimeo that provides another access point to your business. Some content marketers upload videos to YouTube, then reposted on their blog. Others create a video blog, or vlog, that lives on YouTube.

Podcasts:
Podcasts are audio articles or radio shows, often published in iTunes, Stitcher Radio, or Blubrry. Podcasting is gaining renewed popularity now because people who don’t have time to read are able to listen to articles while in their daily commute or other activities.

Powerpoint presentations:
Offer the them on your website. Turn them into infographics. Use them in blog posts. Upload them to Slideshare.

Tutorials, guides:
You can create a Web page that provides links to additional information, essentially making a lesson plan for learning something new. This is a great way to build authority in your area of expertise. Remember to tell people what to do if they need additional help. (See how easy it is to drive business objectives with your content!)

Infographics:
Infographics are creative presentations of facts and figures rather than dry-as-toast reports. If they’re well done, they are also very sharable. Visual.ly is a great resource for simple infographics. You could also search for the infographics related to your products on Google and understand what infographics your competitors are offering.

Newsletters:
Content marketing is about building relationship. What better way than to send your content to people’s inbox rather than making them visit your website every day? A newsletter also helps you build your email list, which allows you to make email offers as well. You can make use of the email service provided by Mailchimp to send out news and updates to your subscribers.

Ebooks, books and products/programs:
Ebooks and books are a great way to build authority and trust. You can easily produce a short ebook and sell it on Amazon or Ebay. Then turn it into a PDF and offer it on your website as well.

TIP #1 If you’re just starting your content marketing strategy, start with your blog. Then as you gain expertise, add one or two new type of content at a time.

TIP #2 Before settling on a type of content, double check your choice:

  • Is it something that is easy for you to create?
  • Do your followers want to receive information in that format?

Content marketing is king in online marketing and it is all about showing your expertise and building up your authority in certain area relating to your business. It is the trust that you have to gain from your audience before you can start doing business with them. I hope you find this email useful for your online business.

Content Marketing Tips 1

Content marketing is the most important element in today’s internet marketing in order that your website may stand out and be liked by search engines. Here are the two tips we would like to share today:

1. Write good quality content that will benefit your audience – Understand your customers’ needs is important as they do not care what you sell but they only care what they want to buy. They care a lot about the benefits they would be getting as a result of using your products. Do you offer them some value before asking them to buy? What is the reason they need to buy your product? Could your product solve their problem? For example, if you are selling sexy lingerie, what is the main reason woman buys sexy lingerie? What are her pain points? Does she just buy it because the price is right? Or does she buy it because it makes her look extra-ordinary in front of her boyfriend or husband? What if she looks better in her lingerie than when she is naked. What if she can make her husband begs to go to bed with her in her lingerie every night? What happen if by wearing the sexy lingerie that you sell, she could get her husband claw over broken glass and begs for her forgiveness and promise that he will get home latest by 8 pm every day? What happen if she could save a lot of money by buying from you and yet she still gets to enjoy all the benefits that other lingerie offers? These are just some examples but you should think about what you could offer to your customers that would help solve their problems. Customers don’t just buy from you if there is no compelling reason for them to do so.

Plus size lingerie

2. Write “Ever Green” content – This type of content will literally be read over and over again by people regardless of time change. If you are selling leggings, you could write articles about how leggings fit with most types of blouse and tunic. You could write about why leggings are so hot in style and yet they are so comfortable. You could offer insight how to choose to wear legging for different occasions. You could also talk about which type of leggings are the most popular in your country. If you are selling Harry Porter’s magic wands, you could talk about why every kid must have a piece of the magic wand and why Harry Porter is a hero in every kid’s heart. What could they learn from Harry Porter? If you are selling sexy lingerie, then you could talk about the different types of lingerie and how to select the lingerie that best suit her body type, and how to avoid making mistake on wearing them. For example, women with small tits are not suitable to wear corset, while woman with big butt would not want to wear something that is too tight and make them look cumbersome. You can also share your own experience in wearing sexy lingerie if you are a lady and why is it important to wear sexy lingerie even if you are single.

By offering your audience good quality content that will benefit them, your turnkey website would tend to have higher chance to be remembered by them and subsequently turn them into your customers. Beside good content, you must also take note on the meta keywords and descriptions as these are still the important elements in SEO. The meta keywords and descriptions could be customized on the content page in the back office of the turnkey store.

Content is King, Design is Queen, But Don’t Forget the Marketing Prince

Content is king

In order for a website to be successful, it needs to have quality content. First and foremost, people want to be moved, entertained, or even sold on a quality product. While flashy pictures and an attractive background may help, they are only secondary means to the end. Even with upgrades in design, content continues to reign as king due to its importance in providing readers with the information they need.

The most sought after content is that which provides something new and easily digestible to its audience. While interesting content sells, it still needs to be understandable to a large enough audience in order to produce profits. It also helps to have wit and humor sprinkled throughout in order to remain relatable and entertaining. Some examples of profitable content are entertainment, reviews, and commentary on current events. If possible, try to make lists to help your content sell. Top 10 lists are very popular and will allow your readers to easily skim through the content.

Design is queen

With content as king, design is able to reign as a nice secondary queen. Make no mistake, the king and queen need to be together in order to rule the kingdom. With your webpage as the kingdom, content and design should blend beautifully together into a nice and elegant union. The content may be the most important aspect, but the design helps to enhance your page in all of the right ways.

It is important to take note of user experience (UX) in order to enhance the navigation of your site. While the trends in responsive design are worth taking note of, site functionality is the key to keeping your readers engaged. Your site should be easy to navigate and without avant-garde frills; if they can’t find their way around, they won’t stick around. Keep your site-map and links simple to help guide your users through your webpage.

Your design may be minimalist in order to allow viewers to focus solely on your content. You may utilize colors, artwork, and other post-modern designs in the hopes of creating a unique and memorable experience. As long as the design matches and does not overshadow the content, you will have a nice symmetry that attracts and keeps users.

Meet the new prince

You’ve met the established king and queen, and now it’s time to meet the new prince: marketing. Marketing is the third and important part of establishing your website for long term success. Without marketing, people will never be exposed to the website you’ve created. While you may get a few people stumbling upon your site, you will fail to get the views your business needs to thrive in today’s virtual economy.

Marketing is Prince
Bad content + good design + good marketing =…

If you have a beautifully designed webpage with a strong marketing campaign around it, then you are sure to get an initial rush of hits. People will hear of your site, and then will stay for a short amount of time due to aesthetics. However, they will most likely not stick around due to a lack of quality content. Over time, poor content will fail to keep them excited about your website. No matter how flashy and grand your graphics are, your content is what will keep people begging for more.

Good content + bad design + good marketing =…

While it is crucial that you have strong content to emotionally affect your audience, it is still not the only ingredient necessary in making a hit website. You can have amazing content combined with exceptional marketing and still have be missing an important piece of the puzzle. While content is still king, you will need a well designed website in order to enhance the content.

A website needs to have a design that enhances the content in the best ways possible. If a design is lackluster, cheap, or mismatched with the content, then audiences may lose trust in the author or owner of the site. The design needs to show people that the website is reputable, well maintained, and that the owner cares enough to keep it interesting. Failing this, visitors will not be able to entirely connect with the website no matter how enticing the content may be.

Bad content + bad design + good marketing =…

If you have bad content and distasteful design, then it doesn’t matter how hard your marketing team works. Sure, it may get a few hits or an initial rush of curious visitors, but it won’t get you subscribers or a following. One of the keys to successful internet businesses is maintaining a trust and kinship with your audience. In order to do this, you need to have the king and queen fully functional before the prince makes his move.

Examples of the holy trinity in action

You don’t have to look far to see cases where the holy trinity has helped a site to make profits and grow a following. As one example, look at the comedy website www.cracked.com. While this website is known and visited primarily due to its comedic and controversial content, it has utilized design and marketing in order to be one of the best in its class.

Cracked has been focusing on its content from day one, yet it has been able to upgrade its design and marketing in order to stay ahead and keep its readership growing. In terms of content, Cracked makes sure only to publish articles by writers that they have chosen according to their standards. While readers may not enjoy every article they stumble upon, they are likely to find something in their niche to keep them coming back.

Cracked

With design, Cracked has generally utilized a modest theme in order to enhance the content on the website. With a white background and a magazine-style layout, Cracked is able to stay distinct without ever being overbearing. In response to reader feedback, the website upgraded to a more secured format to enhance the comments feature. This is an example of a website listening to its audience and upgrading accordingly.

As for marketing, Cracked features links for social network sites at the left side of every article. This allows users to instantly spread their favorite articles on popular websites like Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit. This is free marketing for Cracked, and it allows them to be seen and read by thousands without any extra effort on their part. All they need is an entertaining and memorable article, and then their fans take care of the rest.

How to market your content without spamming

As we’ve seen with the Cracked example, it is important to let your content do the marketing for you. It is ideal if you let the ideas spread organically through sharing, linking, and reposting. While this is the most ideal form of marketing, it is not always possible for newer websites.

In order to get your content seen, you should initially market it to the applicable target group. You will need a base following in order to spread organically, and you must first focus on building that group. You can do this by paying for ads on related websites, or you can use SEO techniques in order to utilize Google search results.

You can also use more modern approaches to advertising. Instead of waiting for a following to share your stories, you can do it yourself on sites like Reddit or Facebook. If you can create a discussion around a topic on your site, then you will have curious readers exposed to the rest of your site as well.

By understanding what makes a webpage advance, it is now time to unite your king and queen with their new prince. Make sure to keep each aspect of your website up to its fullest potential in order to see results. With strong marketing techniques and a fulfilling design, you will be able to ensure the success of your original content.

How to gauge your site’s success

By following Google analytics, you can map the current traffic stats of your site. If there are ever long periods of dipped traffic, then you may want to increase your marketing efforts. It is ideal if your traffic grows steadily over time. You can also gauge how long the average visitor spends on your site. If most visitors explore your site and read numerous articles, you will have a greater chance of building a strong base.

Finally, you can gauge the content of your site by tracking the comments and resharing rate. If there is a comment section on your site, then check to ensure that the feedback is positive. If there is a discussion forum, then check to ensure that the discussion is civil, productive, and inviting. As for the re-sharing rate, you should see how many visitors are coming through second-party sites like Facebook. If your visitors are sharing your site with their friends, then you can enjoy the thrill of free marketing!

FINAL FOOD FOR THOUGHT

It is important to look objectively at your work to see its strengths and weaknesses. Does your website have a synergy of king, queen, and prince? Which of these three aspects do you find to be most important in achieving success? Try and think of examples where all three meet in an exceptional way. You can also think of ways where a site has lacked either design, content, or strong marketing and was still successful.

By keeping these three techniques in mind, you will be able to see internet marketing in a whole new way. Utilize these new techniques in order to get your website seen today!
